This road and area desperately needs segregated cycle lanes copenhagen style. See here 1.bp.blogspot.com/_bOyY_NHTGOU/Sr3Ad-CyfaI/AAAAAAAAAHI/TcE3c8Elqf4/s400/Bike+stops (cycle lane going behind the bus stop rather than in front). There are constant traffic issues pulling out. The flagship part of the scheme is that it is a) doable b) there are many tourists round here it would showcase cycling in a central location as not only a faster way round, but one of the most pleasant. Tottenham Court Road Junction is a nightmare at any time but segregated cycle paths are needed leading northbound up Charing Cross Road northbound leading to Tottenham Court Road junction. These also have potential to be continued up Tottenham Court Road at a later date providing a central northbound safe route out of the city. And thousands of cyclists already use this route so there is a real potential to showcase good design principles and see it being widely used. Moving cyclists out of the way of cars will also help make the experience of car drivers and buses less stressful and more pleasant for road users all round.
